Embed 3D models in Miro
Learn how to bring your Revit, Archicad, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, and other 3D models into Miroo, so your team can explore designs, give feedback, and collaborate visually in one place.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- A Speckle account with access to your workspace
- A 3D model already uploaded to your Speckle workspace
- A Miro account
Speckle unlocks your 3D models from proprietary formats by streaming data directly from the design tools your team uses via lightweight connectors. They extract geometry and metadata, securely publishing them to the cloud without file exports. Models are safely stored, versioned, and easily viewed, shared, or embedded in apps like Miro and Notion.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Get the Embed Code from Speckle
- Open your Speckle workspace and locate the model you want to embed in Miro.
- Click the ellipsis button (⋯) in the top right-hand corner of the model viewer.
- Select "Embed Model" from the dropdown menu.
- From the available options, focus on the "Embed Code" section.
- Click the "Copy" button to copy the embed code to your clipboard.
- Close the dialog box.
2. Add your 3D model to a Miro board
- Open your Miro board where you want to add the Speckle model
- Click the plus sign (+) on the left-hand side toolbar
- In the search tools dialog box, type "embed"
- Look for "Embed iFrame Code" from the search results and click on it
- A dialog box will appear asking for the embed code
- Press Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac) to paste the Speckle embed code you copied earlier
- Click "Embed" to add the model to your board
3. Activate your embedded model
When your Speckle model first appears in Miro, you may see a placeholder or preview image. To fully activate the interactive model:
- Click on the eyeball icon that appears on the embedded model
- Your Speckle model will load instantly and become fully interactive within the Miro board
Conclusion
Embedding Speckle models in Miro bridges the gap between technical 3D modeling and collaborative team workflows.
This integration transforms your Miro boards into comprehensive design collaboration spaces where models, discussions, and documentation coexist seamlessly, making it an invaluable tool for design teams looking to enhance their collaborative processes.
